ABOUT US
Captain Ken, a life-long resident of Vancouver Island, has spent thousands of hours on the water—both recreationally and commercially. For many years, in the 1990s, he worked on commercial fishing boats off the North Island Coast where he held many marine certifications including Master Limited, Watchkeeping Mate, Marine First Aid, Marine Emergency Duties.
At that time, he promised himself that he would one day return to that majestic scenery on his own vessel to enjoy the beauty instead of hauling fish nets and working in it.
That day has come. Captain Ken bought his beautiful Bayliner 3988 in 2023.
Deciding that he wanted to share the beauty with others, he obtained his Small Vessel Operators Proficiency Certificate, a Domestic Vessel Safety certificate, Marine Radio and Marine First Aid certification in 2024.
Although still working in his profession of 20+ years as a certified septic system practitioner, Ken makes himself available to customize tours for individuals and groups (up to 6) who want to explore the world-renowned yachting waters and scenery of Desolation Sound.
Passengers meet Captain Ken in Campbell River, where he will return them.
Day cruises (4-hour minimum) and multi-day cruises are available.
ABOUT THE BOAT
The Island Dreamer has a salon (living room and dining areas) on the main deck. Down a few steps are two staterooms and two heads (washrooms). The washroom off the forward stateroom has a tub and shower; the port-side stateroom has a shower.
The Galley comes complete with a microwave, stove, oven, and two small refrigerators, sink and prep area, as well as an icemaker.
There is a flying bridge on which guests are welcome (but must climb the ladder to get there). This elevated vantage point is surrounded by removable plastic and vinyl panels to offer an amazing view and comfy seating where guests can chat with the captain while underway.
The Island Dreamer is equipped with a 10′ Caribe (zodiak-style boat hanging off the swim platform) with a 20hp motor. This can be used to shuttle guests to shore if that is a desire of guests (and conditions are suitable).
The vessel has all Transport Canada emergency/safety equipment, including an inflatable 8-person life-raft in addition to the Caribe.
After discussions with Captain Ken when you are planning your trip, you may wish to bring your own inflatable kayaks or paddleboards as well.
